The project originated as part of an international design competition and slots into the radical design tradition, where form is not merely a consequence of function, but becomes its source, inspiration and possibility. From this perspective, the object does not merely fulfill a need, but suggests new ways of use and new relationships with domestic space.

The idea comes to life from an everyday yet evocative image: a bench after a heavy snowfall, transformed by a soft blanket of snow that conceals and alters its outlines and redefines how it is perceived. From this vision emerges a sofa that brings together two seemingly opposing dimensions: rational structure and organic material, rigor and softness, substance and imagination.

The base, crafted out of solid wood, is designed as an essential, linear, and distinctly rational element, defined by planks that shape the seat and backrest. The wood is allowed to express its authentic character, highlighting its grain, knots, and color variations, creating a warm and natural tactile and visual experience. The length of the base intentionally exceeds that of the upholstery, creating side panels that serve as informal surfaces capable of holding objects and expanding the possibilities for use.

Resting on this frame is a padded section with a distinctly organic shape, reminiscent of a blanket of fresh snow: soft, continuous, with fluid and slightly irregular contours. The upholstery, crafted from elastic fabric with a bouclé finish, conveys a sense of lightness and warmth, while the range of color options—from snow white to darker shades such as deep black or Artemide green—introduces a more abstract and experimental interpretation of the object, in line with the project’s radical approach.

The configuration of the sofa is complemented by accessories that fit into the same conceptual framework: small cushions, resembling soft snowballs with organically irregular shapes, can be placed on the seat or on the base’s support surfaces, thus providing ergonomic supports for sitting in various positions. Similarly, the sofa is accompanied by a pouf that evokes the image of a pile of snow—again soft and organic in form—thus serving as a thematic reverberation of the sofa.

The result is a hybrid object, suspended between furniture and narrative, in which the memory of an atmosphere takes on a domestic form. The sofa thus becomes not only a functional piece of furniture, but an element capable of activating the imagination, redefining the relationship between matter, space, and perception.
