Cascina Oschiena
editAn architectural remnant of the XVIII century. A profound layering. The refurbishment and enhancement of an eco-friendly farm.

At Cascina Oschiena, rice has been grown in a responsible and mindful fashion for centuries. That is why the project is driven by nature as a carrier of innovation. The renovation is focused on the role of architecture: every decision has been taken in the respect of local traditions, sustainability, energy efficiency and low environmental impact over time.

Traditional materials and crafts are combined with advanced technologies in systems design and green building. The roof’s ancient beams were removed, stripped of their metal parts, processed and sanded, and finally turned into the living area’s floor, for a low-impact resource optimization.

Lime plasters were blended with rice production scraps and natural pigments, to highlight the ancient bond between the territory and its local materials while achieving site-specific textures and color effects.
