To design a house is to tell a story, and in this case the narrative unfolds along the strand of a journey: that of a family moving from Frankfurt to Turin, from the Main to the Po. The design for their new home in a remarkable 1970s building thus moves from a reverberation revolving around the proximity to the river.

From the outset, our intervention focused on analyzing the building’s original materials, with the intention of enhancing the most representative ones. The Rosa marble from Portugal, featured in the living area, was retained and made the centerpiece of the new chromatic palette. The color scheme is inspired by the natural and architectural elements of Frankfurt and Turin: the pink of the marbles, the green of the city parks and sycamore canopies visible from the windows, gray as a neutral and solid base, and light blue, evocative of water and the river.

One of the pivotal spaces of the project is the studio, designed for him, a philosopher by profession. This room, suspended between water, greenery and books, becomes a place for reflection and contemplation, a microcosm in dialogue with the surrounding landscape. The layout of the rooms was completely rethought, resulting in a rigorous home in composition but at the same time cozy and informal, capable of accommodating the needs of the family and their new life in Turin.

A further distinctive element of the design is the use of wallpapers by Cole & Son, selected to convey the idea of a jardin d’hiver that blends with the interiors, providing depth and character to the spaces. The glass panels, mirror-like and transparent, play with light and reflections, amplifying the perception of the spaces and opening up to new perspectives, as if they were additional windows on the city.

The final outcome is a home that transcends the mere function of dwelling, combining materials, light and nature in a balanced and welcoming environment. Each design choice reflects the needs and journey of the family, resulting in a home where past and present coexist in the same space.
